Marika learned with many renowned instructors such as Kim Kashkashian, Csaba Erdélyi, and Abraham Skernick among her major teachers.

As an accomplished artist, she concertized extensively on both baroque and modern viola; entrancingly performing chamber music and orchestral repertoire. Additionally, she coached solo viola repertoire and chamber music as well as lectures on the Western classical repertoire. Music Career

Marika Fischer Hoyt is no stranger to the world of musical performance. She has been a member of a diverse range of orchestras, including the Madison Symphony Orchestra, Ancora String Quartet, and the Sinfonia Sacra of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. As a Baroque violist, she has performed with the Madison Bach Musicians, Bach Collegium of Fort Wayne, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra and Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble. Before her move to Madison in 1999, Marika Fisher Hoyt also had performed with numerous symphonies in cities such as Richmond (VA), Charleston (WV) and Des Moines (IA). Additionally, she was the host for Saturday Afternoon Classics radio show that aired on Wisconsin Public Radio from 2012-2016. She further enhanced her contributions to classical music by giving pre-concert lectures for ensembles like the Madison Symphony.

Marika Fischer Hoyt, passed away on February 21, 2023, she had been battling with multiform glioblastoma for some time. According to Sasha Weldy’s Facebook post, Marika made the heartbreaking decision to enter hospice care after having a seizure and becoming unresponsive on Friday evening. Her passing has left many in deep sorrow and dismay. Marika was an inspirational leader and role model in her community and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
