Marika Fischer Hoyt is no stranger to the world of musical performance. She has been a member of a diverse range of orchestras, including the Madison Symphony Orchestra, Ancora String Quartet, and the Sinfonia Sacra of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. As a Baroque violist, she has performed with the Madison Bach Musicians, Bach Collegium of Fort Wayne, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra and Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble. Before her move to Madison in 1999, Marika Fisher Hoyt also had performed with numerous symphonies in cities such as Richmond (VA), Charleston (WV) and Des Moines (IA). Additionally, she was the host for Saturday Afternoon Classics radio show that aired on Wisconsin Public Radio from 2012-2016. She further enhanced her contributions to classical music by giving pre-concert lectures for ensembles like the Madison Symphony.

According to Sasha Weldy’s Facebook post, Marika made the heartbreaking decision to enter hospice care after having a seizure and becoming unresponsive on Friday evening. Her passing has left many in deep sorrow and dismay. Marika was an inspirational leader and role model in her community and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
