How did Lee Thomas die? What was his cause of death?

The sudden and tragic death of Lee Thomas, a 19-year-old resident of Cleves, Ohio, has left his family, friends, and community in deep shock and grief. The fatal car accident occurred on Thursday night on U.S. 50 near Greendale, Indiana, and involved multiple vehicles. While driving his 2010 Kia, Thomas experienced a breakdown and immediately got out of the car to push it from the back, while a 15-year-old passenger steered from the driver’s seat. 

However, he was hit by a 2012 Volkswagen car driven by a 76-year-old Lawrenceburg man, resulting in the Kia being pushed into the path of an oncoming 2010 Volkswagen, driven by a 37-year-old from Amelia, and causing a second collision. Despite the quick response of emergency responders, Thomas was declared dead at the scene by the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office. Both the 15-year-old passenger and the driver of the first car sustained minor injuries, and an investigation is ongoing, although authorities have ruled out alcohol or drug involvement. Lee Thomas recently graduated from Taylor High School, and the Three Rivers School District has shared a GoFundMe page to help support his family during this difficult time.

Tributes pour in for Lee Thomas

Expressing grief over Lee Thomas’ death, his friend, Chris Mattingly, shared a Facebook post. He wrote, “Kiana lost a dear friend last night and the community lost a gem of a young man.  

Lee had just graduated from Taylor less than two years ago and now he’s gone.  He was a great kid, worked with me a couple times and spent countless evenings at our house.  

Such a sweet dude all smiles all the time. This is all so unexpected. At 7:00 last night Lee was still here, still making plans for an amazing life.”

Mount St. Joseph University, also shared a Facebook post to express their grief. The post wrote, “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Lee Thomas. Described by one professor as “a smiling, funny, positive presence,” Lee was a first-year psychology major, choir member, and student worker in the Office of Admission. Please join us in praying for Lee and his loved ones.”
