Guido Basso was one of the original members of the Grammy and Juno Award-winning Rob McConnell & the Boss Brass. Canadian jazz music icon, Guido Basso, was born on September 27th 1937 in Montreal, Quebec. From his Italian-Canadian family came an artist with a unique set of talents – a trumpeter, flugelhornist, arranger, composer and conductor. At the age of nine he began playing the trumpet and from there studied at Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal.
His talent soon gained attention from Vic Damone who included him on an international tour in 1957-58 leading to a professional music career as a teen. With an expansive repertoire spanning decades of both original compositions and iconic interpretations of popular songs, Basso became a household name in his home country and even internationally.
Personal Life:
Guido Basso was married to Kristin and together they had one daughter, Mia Basso Noble, who tragically passed away due to cancer in September 2013. Mia lived an astounding life as a musician and songwriter that enriched the lives of many throughout her career. Her loss is still deeply felt by her father and mother, most especially those closest to her, but will never be forgotten.
